Welcome to Cultural Health Education online! This site is designed to assist public health nurses and ancillary support staff in providing appropriate and culturally aware health care services. This project is aligned with the Health Education Training Center's (HETC) mandate to meet the persistent and severe unmet health care needs in border states through culturally competent care.

We invite you to explore this site, which has been developed by the College of Graduate Nursing at Western University of Health Sciences to address the need for culturally competent care providers in California.

While the project initially focuses on the needs of Hispanic patients and improving the representation of Hispanic health care professionals, the most underrepresented group in the state's health care workforce, we hope to expand the site to raise the cultural competence of health professionals with respect to other minority patient groups in California.

    Goals

  • To improve access to quality health care through appropriate preparation, composition and distribution of health profession workforce.

  • To improve access to a diverse and culturally competent, health professions workforce.

  • To identify a practical and sustainable method to improve language skills (medical Spanish) for the health care professionals employed by San Bernardino county public health department.
